Spoon Handle Earring Group

I don't think I've posted an image of the whole group of these on here yet. These earrings are all made from antique baby spoon handles. The spoon bowls were made into the necklace at the bottom of this post. I have one pair of handles left...I think I am going to make a mold so I can cast more of these. I really like the earrings but know I will probably never find a set of baby spoons again, much less a set of 12, so if I make a mold I can make more of the earrings. I may use these to apply to the Earrings show at Heidi Lowe Gallery...not sure yet.

Plugging Away

Well, in between near nervous breakdowns, I am getting work slowly and surely done for my show. I have finished lots more of the spoons in my "Collection" piece...which is good because I plan on this piece taking up a 12 foot space.
I actually really enjoy making these. They are fun, no pressure and fairly simple. I like that each one feels like a sketch, if I don't like it, it doesn't matter, I just move on to the next one.
They are starting to look really good all together and I think this piece may end up being my favorite one in the show. Which is funny because it is by far the most simple and non technical.
Not sure what that means but it makes me laugh.
Ok....back to work...only 50 more days!

Spoon Necklace!

New necklace...made of antique baby spoons, silk and pearls. It fits like a choker.
You may remember these earrings...they were made with the handles from the same baby spoons.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great new years! I spent mine doing some research. I checked out a bunch of jewelry/metals books from the library. My favorite was "European Spoons Before 1700" by John Emery...I got immersed in that one for hours.
I didn't make any resolutions this year...I can't seem to think about anything but surviving the next two months and making it through my thesis alive. Maybe I'll make resolutions in April:)
Anyway, its a bit late, but Happy New Year to you all!

Collection

I'll do a full post on the Intercollegiate Metals Exhibition soon (it is an AWESOME show!!) but for now just wanted to quickly post some images of the piece I submitted to the show this year.
"Collection"
found silver spoons, silk thread, pearls
I had originally made that necklace I posted about a few days ago for the show, but after installation we decided we needed to fill more wall space so I had to finish this piece up. I think it needs about 50 more spoons:)
I am still working this piece out in my mind, but it makes reference to family collections, antique spoon collections, heirlooms, domestic objects passed from generation to generation etc. If you have any thoughts, critiques, commentary or criticism it is welcome.
Thanks for looking.

Playing with Spoons

Not sure what will come of these, but I've been playing with some old antique spoons lately. Lots more to play with...
