Another Platter Finished

Shadows Series 2, found object, embroidery, 13"x7"x2"
I finished another platter in my Shadows series today. It looks much like the other one I made, except the silhouette is different. This silhouette comes from a photo taken in 1958 of my grandmother with my dad and uncle. I wish I had a better detail of the embroidery, but I don't. The border closest to the silhouettes is a chain stitch with french knots. I like how it turned out. I think I will do one more of these for now, and then move on to something a little different. I may come back to them...not sure.
This is the first platter in the series (below). I already posted photos a few weeks back, but I thought I'd post it with the photograph that the silhouettes came from. It is my mom and her sister as children, probably somewhere around 1965.

I love the embroidery and choice of color. Are you familiar with the work of photographer Martha Rosler? There is something about it that is reminding me of work she did with family photos. Of course I can't find an example online!

Okay, so that makes me older than your mother! Sigh...
A very nice plate. I was wondering, if that silhouette technique would look like in a silver and gold pendant. With the gold as the silhouette and the silver blackened. I loved that idea of yours.

Barb-No, Im not familiar with that artist. I will have to look her up.

Hans-Its ok:) Old age means wisdom:) And yes, I think that gold silhouette idea is a great one. You should try it. Its not really my idea, people have been using silhouettes for hundreds of years!
